At the entrance of Cloud Cuckoo Land sits the largest fungi you are
ever likely to see. Does it have mushroom? Yes it does as it can
take upto 48 riders to dizzy new heights, in a journey usually
reserved only for spores.
A
traditional fairground attraction with a twist, the Twirling
Toadstool gives a fresh new look to one of the oldest rides in the
park, whilst giving riders an exciting new view over Cloud Cuckoo
Land as they take to their seats to swing high over the newest land
at Alton Towers suspended only by four chains.
Even whilst standing in the queue the ride swings high above you, dipping down then flying back towards the sky.
And so despite its location this is no children's ride, supplying
plenty of family fun and thrills and offering the nearest feeling to
actual flight this side of Air.
Attraction History
When it first opened
in 1984 the ride was known
as the Wave Swinger in Festival Park, however in 1999 when the area
became Ug Land, the ride was also re-themed and re-named the Ug Swinger.
The ride stayed
in Ug Land with the arrival Rita - Queen Of Speed
in 2005, though moving position to accommodate the new coaster,
however for the 2009 season the ride moved to the newly created
Cloud Cuckoo Land, taking its current form.
