2010 sees a closed season not quite like any other we have seen in
the past few years. For the first time since the 90s the park itself
is open for the resort's Winter Season, although only in a limited
capacity. This year as well as the hotel attractions, Towers Street,
Mutiny Bay, Storybook Land and Old MacDonald's Farmyard are open for
hotel guests.
The big news for the closed season is of course the construction of
Thirteen, which involves the transformation of Ug Land into the Dark
Forest. Alongside this the Cloud Cuckoo Land Skyride station is
being rebuilt after last season's fire, creating a very busy corner
of the park.
Elsewhere Spinball Whizzer is receiving a repaint ready to become
Sonic Spinball in time for the February Half Term. Also the entrance
plaza is due to be transformed with the installation of the
Corkscrew's famous inversions as piece of artwork.
For more
information and photos on the attractions open during the festive
period, head over to the
Winter
Season page. And for pictures of the park's February Half
Term event head of to its dedicated
event gallery. And of course we
have construction archives for the construction of
Thirteen and the
Skyride.
The park may be open for half term, but
today we're taking a look at the
intermingled rides and attractions which are still deep inside the
closed
season. Such as Eastern Express and the ladder game in Mutiny Bay
Still in Mutiny Bay, lets take a tour of
the Battle Galleons which
is also closed for the season. For some reason no-one fancied
a water fight in the middle of February! Odd that!
And, as ever the Flume too is drained
and bathtubless.
While we're on this side of Mutiny Bay,
lets have a look at some other closed up shops (we here at
TowersTimes know how much you love your closed up shops)
Here we have The Flume photo booth and Portrait Gallery, though the
Mexican Cantina and all the games over here are closed too!
And so to Katanga Canyon, where we take
the rare opportunity to
take a look around an ever so dry* rapids river.
*well more damp then dry,
but you catch my meaning.
Another water ride down for it's closed
season rehab is Ripsaw. It could be a coincidence... but I'm
starting to see a pattern.
Trust King 6 to break the pattern. It
may not be a water ride, but these
trampolines are also down for the closed season.
Which brings us neatly to Cloud Cuckoo
Land where we can see the evidence of some tree felling, and we can
add another water ride to the collection as CATCF is shuttered until
March.
What do you call a closed Burger King?
Well... Burger King really,
Oblivion is open for February Half Term
and the queue line has received some attention.
Meanwhile the rest of X Sector, such as
Submission sit dormant.
Enterprise is in the middle of rather
extensive rehab, with the arms currently sat
off to one side and the cars nowhere to be seen. And it looks like
maintenance
are using the Black Hole Tent as a base
We close today with a peek backstage and
everyone's favourite Ribena Berry, though more notably not a Splash
Kart in sight!

2010
A quick Corkscrew update for you today.
As you can see they've made good progress on the painting programme,
with only a hint of the trademark yellow now left. They are now
mostly either in their finished purple or with the grey undercoat.
